Penang Road, or Jalan Penang in Malay, was the first road to be built out of the original town mapped by Captain Francis Light. Today, this busy stretch of road is lined with hotels, hostels, coffee shops, mamak stalls and, alas, a number of tourist traps that sell overpriced merchandises. We journeyed through the well-known road to taste the most famous dishes and discover hidden gems. If you’re driving, let us forewarn that parking is a hassle and a test to your patience. To get a good parking spot, park your vehicle at the many private parking bays along Penang Road. Otherwise, give your feet a good workout!
